A renowned speaker Prof. Shozo Hibino will be present in Sri Lanka for a one day seminar which will be organized by SLT, the nation’s premier telecommunication service provider.

Breakthrough Thinking is a new thinking paradigm proposed for this rapidly changing world with a concept composed of seven basic mental assumptions which is considered completely different to conventional thinking.

Breakthrough thinking is a new concept emerges with new principles and provides total holistic approach to problem solving.
Breakthrough Thinking has been introduced to many leading corporations in Japan, USA, Korea, China and in companies such as Toyota, Canon, Fuji, Xerox, NEC. In addition, numerous governmental organizations and other top companies worldwide also follow this approach in Breakthrough Thinking.

The seminar is to be held on September 21 from 9 am to 5 pm at the TransAsia Hotel. Prof Hibino is the best selling author of two books on breakthrough thinking. He is a co-founder of A New Thinking Paradigm, Breakthrough Thinking and has been consulting in many companies and Government organizations in Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, and other countries. He has published more than 100 papers and over 30 books, including "Breakthrough Thinking", " Creative Solution Finding", " Breakthrough", " Planology", " Breakthrough QC", " Breakthrough Re-Engineering", " Breakthrough in Health Care", "Breakthrough Science" and " Breakthrough Strategy" in many languages, including Japanese, English, Korean, Chinese, Indonesian, Denmark and so on.

The Board of Directors of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC has decided to invest Rs.5 Billion in equity of Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC.

This investment which will be on staggered basis and is expected to be made within a period of 06 months.

Funds of this investment will be used by Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd for expansion plans in terms of coverage, capacity and Network Modernization.

The Fundamental Rights Application filed by a law-maker against the sale of shares of SLT by NTT Communications Corporation of Japan to Global Telecommunications Holdings NV (GTH), was concluded on 10.3.2008. The Stay Order was vacated and the parties were permitted to proceed with the sale of shares subject to the following:

(1) GOSL should not be party to the sale and the proposed shareholders agreement between the prospective investor and the GOSL should not be proceeded with.

(2) The Shareholders Agreement currently in force to terminate with the sale of the shares by NTT Com in its entirety, to Global Telecommunications Holdings NY.

(3) If, in the event a fresh management agreement is contemplated, it should be concluded with transparency and proper external disclosures.

NTT Communications Corporation, has on the 19th March 2007, informed the Company that they are currently in discussion with Global Telecommunications Holdings N. V. ("GTH") a subsidiary of Usaha Tegas Sdn.Bhd., a business conglomerate headquartered in Malaysia on a possible sell down of part of their holding in SLT to "GTH" and in this regard had sought agreement of SLT for a due deligence exercise to be carried out by GTH of the SLT Group. The Board of SLT has today given their consent for such due deligence exercise.

Sri Lanka Telecom, the country’s premier telecommunications provider recently announces its incorporation of a fully owned subsidiary in Hong Kong. SLT Hong Kong Limited, is fully geared to provide services such as IP transit, IPVPN, IPSL and International voice traffic transit services to global telecom operators and corporates in Hong Kong.

As part of its ongoing initiatives of SLT to going global, SLT Hong Kong Limited will aim to become an important point of presence of SLT connecting Asia with the rest of the world through Sri Lanka. The initiative of incorporation of SLT Hong Kong Limited will be a considerable step forward for SLT to become a regional telecommunication facilitator.

SLT today enjoys high bandwidth global connectivity via SEA-ME-WE 3 and SEA-ME-WE 4 (South East Asia – Middle East – Western Europe). These cable systems along with multiple satellite connectivities help SLT to harness full potential of newly commissioned bilateral Bharat-Lanka Submarine Cable System with BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) of India and soon to be commissioned bilateral Sri Lanka – Maldives submarine cable system with Diraagu of Maldives.

SLT is currently in the process of evolving its telecommunication network to an NGN [Next Generation Networks] on IP-MPLS technology using optical fibre backbone which will enable SLT to provide multiple services on one network.
